

Bette Ruth Hundley passed away on September 28, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on July 8, 1936, at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, California, to William and Maude Gray, Bette grew up in Downey, California, with her younger sister, Marjorie. She graduated from Downey High School in 1954.
While attending Downey High School, Bette met her high school sweetheart and future husband, John R. Hundley. Together they built a wonderful life centered around family, love, traditions, and many special memories. After high school, Bette traveled through Europe, beginning a lifelong love of travel and seeing the world.
Bette lived a full and active life. She worked at Bullock's and taught Sunday School at Downey Methodist Church. She was involved with the Assistance League of Downey and the Assistance League of San Juan Capistrano and volunteered at the Bargain Box. Bette also devoted more than 50 years of service to PEO in Downey, California, and San Juan Capistrano, California. She loved gardening, cooking, traveling, reading, tennis, snow skiing, bridge, and needlepoint. Her favorite flowers included sweet peas, English roses, and forget-me-nots. She also loved Broadway musicals and was a devoted USC Trojan football fan.
Bette is survived by her husband, John R. Hundley; her three children, Julie Kos, John Hundley Jr. and his wife Tanna, and Brian Hundley and his wife Susie; and her seven grandchildren, Jason Kos, Eric Kos, Alison Atha, Haley Hundley, Lauren McAndrews, Lindsey Dubuque, and Zachary Hundley.
Bette is also survived by her twelve great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Kos, Evelyn Kos, Travis Kos, Jack Kos, Lucy Kos, Katherine Atha, James Atha, Parker Dubuque, Savannah Dubuque, Addison Dubuque, Robert McAndrews IV, and Lainey McAndrews; as well as her nephew, Gavin Oglesby, his wife Heather, and their son Devlin. Bette lived a long and wonderful life surrounded by the family and friends she loved, and the many memories she created will be treasured for generations to come.
