Robert “Bob” Evan Rich was born on August 24, 1950, in New Hyde Park, New York to Martin and Lucille Rich. At the age of five, he moved with his family to the San Fernando Valley in California, where he would grow up and begin forming the passions that defined his life.
He attended Taft High School, where he played on the tennis team, before going on to UCLA for both his undergraduate and law degrees. As an undergraduate, Bob played in the UCLA Jazz Ensemble and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, a reflection of his brilliant intellect and deep love of music. During law school, he spent a formative summer interning in Washington, D.C. for Senator Gene Tunney.
After law school, Bob began his legal career at a firm but quickly took an entrepreneurial path, co-founding his own firm, Kirschman and Rich, in Marina del Rey. In the mid-1980s, he joined Stradling Yocca Carlson and Rauth in Newport Beach as a partner and built a distinguished career in corporate law. He remained with the firm until his retirement in 2019.
On May 6, 1979, Bob married Lisa Lenack in Beverly Hills, California. Together, they raised three daughters – Alexis, Lauren, and Meryl – who were the pride of his life. He was a good father and grandfather and leaves behind seven grandchildren who adored him.
Outside of his professional life, Bob was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, an active member of the AJC, and continued his love of music by playing the saxophone, including performing in a band with his longtime client and friend, John Tu. His brilliance, wit, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend – a man of remarkable intelligence, deep integrity, and quiet strength.
He passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the age of 74.
