September 16, 1923 – June 10, 2019
Caroline Jean Miller was born on September 16, 1923, the youngest of Carl and Katie Seiffert’s six children. She passed away peacefully in her home on June 10, 2019, at the age of 95, surrounded by her loving grandchildren, Tyson and Tiffany Hodge. Carol grew up in Polson, MT and talked often of her fond memories of the farm and how she was raised. She met her first husband, Phil Clark, after following one of her sisters to Spokane, WA for a job picking asparagus. She married the dashing airman before he left to serve in WWII. Upon Phil’s return from war, the couple moved to Scottsdale, where they started a printing company together and had their two children, Connie and Gary. At a time when it was uncommon for mothers to work outside of the home, Carol blazed a trail by succeeding in the competitive world of real estate. After their children were grown, Carol and Phil decided to follow their own paths. Carol’s path circled the globe, taking her to countries far from her family’s farm in Montana. Ultimately, the warm climate and blue skies of California caused Carol to settle in Newport Beach, where she met and fell in love with OJ (Otto) Miller. The two were married in Kauai in 1980. In typical Carol fashion, she was the general contractor when the couple built their dream home in Newport Beach, managing the project from start to finish. Carol and OJ had many wonderful adventures together in Flathead Lake, MT, OJ’s ranch in Oregon, and on their Miller Time boat. Sadly, OJ passed away in 1997. Carol’s later years continued to be filled with adventures. She traveled and enjoyed the Philharmonic symphony club, the Spyglass Hill Garden club, and various social outings with friends throughout the community. Carol’s lust for life was strong and kept her fighting to the very end. Passing at the age of 95, Carol is preceded in death by many, including her parents, her five siblings, and her two husbands. She is survived by her loving children, Connie Hodge and Gary Clark, her amazing grandchildren, Tyson Hodge (Michelle Reis) and Tiffany Hodge, and five phenomenal great grandchildren: Selia and Elora Hochhalter Hodge, Korbin Hodge, Lakelyn Hodge and Koral Hodge. Her extraordinary grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest source of comfort and joy, and she was fiercely proud of them. The family would like to acknowledge the kind, patient and generous women that took care of Carol in her later years. You have become family and have our deepest and most sincere gratitude: Lynn Keitz, Eva Khwaja, Leila Luna, and Isabel Doble.
