Cary Martin Brooks passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in the early morning of September 10th, at Hoag Hospital, where he worked the last 15 years as a Senior Project Manager and served as a member of the Hoag Hospital Foundation. Cary was a Landscape Architect, Architectural Designer, and a General Contractor. He was educated at Pearl River College in Mississippi, Rio Hondo Community College and UCLA in California. Earlier employment was in Las Vegas with Thomas and Mack, for 10 years, where he designed tens-of-thousands of square feet of business park properties. His introduction to hospital facilities management was with FHP, starting in 1984.
Cary’s main passions were his family, friends, design and cars, especially his grandparents’ ’66 Mercury Monterey, which he enjoyed restoring himself and cruising in throughout the hills of southern Orange County. His garden is a showcase of his encyclopedic knowledge of plant life and its design a testament to his creative eye. It was also a place where he shared some of his happiest moments with his grandchildren, who were everything to him. Cary loved the Mojave desert, where he built his “desert estate” and returned to with family and lifelong friends throughout the years. He also repeatedly traveled back to his ancestral hometown of Columbia/ Foxworth, Mississippi, a formative place where he spent much of his youth and one he held close to his heart. He is survived by his wife Mary, son Patrick, daughter-in-law Katie, grandchildren Leo and Marina, his mother Pat, brothers Larry and Kelly, and sister Robin. Above all, Cary believed in treating others with respect.
