Mr. Montgomery was born on October 31, 1938, in San Diego, CA, and attended Point Loma High School. He graduated from San Diego State University (Class of 1956) with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology. He was a member of Pi Kappa Epsilon fraternity. After graduation, Gary worked at the placement office at SDSU and then continued on with a 40 year career in Human Resources.
While at San Diego State, Gary met and then married Marilyn Hansson in 1963. They lived in San Diego, until 1971, when they decided to move north and establish themselves in the brand new community of Mission Viejo. This is where they raised their family and built many wonderful memories.
Gary dedicated many of his later years as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, offering guidance, encouragement, and hope to many individuals. At home, he found peace and fulfillment in tending to his garden, where he took great pride in nurturing his rare palm trees and other Hawaiian tropical plants.
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn, who passed away in 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his two sons, Craig and Todd; his four grandchildren, Shay, Reese, Cole and Travis, and his three siblings, Ron, Bruce and Sheryll.
A private service will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Montgomery’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to a charity of one’s choice.
