There are so many things we have shared and now so many that we will not be able to share together.  I have no outlet for all the random conversations in my head, albeit demented and sad, but social.  There is no way to replace 25 years of friendship and support.  I hate that you are gone, I gave into that hate, I didn't have to.  Ha man, I get those last lines in and you have no rebuttal.  There aren't words to say, just memories and laughs and adventures.  They have influenced who I am today, you are a huge part of my life.  A toast, to Charlie, may you live forever...

Charlie, I cannot believe it's been an entire year...  No amount of time can go by to lessen your presence from all of our hearts.  You've left such an indelible impresssion on anyone who knew you.  Mere words can't express how truly amazing you were... and I won't even try, for fear that I will trivialize your unique soul.  I wish I got a chance to tell you how much I've always admired you.  You've always been like a cool, big brother that I've always wanted and never actually had.  I always looked up to you and tried in vain to emulate you in many facets of my life.  Thank you, Charlie, for everything you did, everything you taught me and everything you represented.  I will forever cherish all of the memories.  I miss you greatly.

If only I could summon Blake or Keats  to write this.  Or if I were able to ask our good friend Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to write music to be played as this message is read.  Then  perhaps it would come close to expressing the deep emotion I feel for you and oh how I miss you.  But probably it would still fall short.  Each day an internal struggle arises between the logic of positivity and the tragedy of emotion.  I suppose that is what any hero does - makes us feel from all places within our heart and inspires us to think from all places within our brain.  Charlie, you not only inspired that kind of beauty but you did it with a boyish love of life that gave us all hope for what we could be.  I listen for your voice and look for your face each day - and while the pain is still too much to take, I can only be thankful that we had so many close moments that I can still hear and see you so well.  You changed me forever, and made me a better man and a substantially happier person.  There is perhaps no greater compliment one can give.  I love you.

Hey Charlie, it's been a year already, and I still find myself looking for you.  We just had Father's Day dinner last night, and I know that you would have loved it.  Everyone is still thinking of you.

Even though I only spent time with Charlie a few times over the years, I'll always remember the light and energy that seemed to radiate from him.  He will be missed.

I came by to visit your burial site on my way out of town, back to MI to finish out my last term of law school.  It rained and I thought how you would have liked it that the rain would make your flowers …Melissa and I cried in the rain.  Our kids will miss their Uncle Charlie.

Charlie -- we will never forget the fantastic times we shared, golf, Vegas, poker, hanging out.  Your gentle kindness and joy of life will live with us forever.

I'll miss you.  You always knew how to make people smile and laugh.  But now I know you are having a great time wining and dining up there with God the Creator.  Love ya.

I just can't believe you are gone.  You were a beautiful light in countless lives, including mine.  Thank you for your friendship, your laughter, and a smile that would brighten an entire room.  We will miss you so much.

I was just telling a friend that Charles always reminded me of one of those bright yellow smiley face stickers.  His ear-to-ear smile and contagious laughter epitomized his entire being.  He was one of the sunniest spirits in law school -- and he will be missed.  His son and wife, sister and parents will have an angel watching over them for the rest of their lives.

We just learned of this last night and are just deeply saddened.
