Christy Oates

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Christy Young of Huntington Beach, CA, on June 9, 2023, at the age of 77. Christy passed away unexpectedly while vacationing in one of her favorite places, in the British Virgin Islands.

Christy is survived by her children, Shea Christian Silva of Huntington Beach, CA, and Shannon Heather Jensen of Castle Rock, Colorado, and her three grandson’s Evan Silva, Cole & Max Ellrod.

Christy was born on April 22, 1946, in Paducah, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Vernon O’Daniel (deceased), a Civil Engineer, and Virginia O’Daniel (deceased). The eldest of five siblings Gary O’Daniel (deceased), Cheri O’Daniel (deceased), Mark Langford, and Ricky Langford (deceased).

She loved horses growing up near Lexington, Kentucky, which claims the title of the Horse Capital of the world. Her stepfather, Mr. Langford, was a veterinarian specializing in racehorses. Christy was a beauty pageant queen, and one-year judged for Miss Kentucky.

After attending Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, she moved to California in 1964 and became a successful Real Estate Broker in Orange County, CA, for many years specializing in residential Real Estate. She also owned serval residences in the beach cities over a span of 50 years.

Christy would light up a room with her vibrant personality and beautiful smile. She loved traveling on or near the ocean. She has owned many boats over her lifetime in Florida and California. Many of her travels were ocean cruises to the Caribbean and her most recent cruise to Alaska with her son, Shea, and grandson, Evan.

In a recent social media post she said, “The beach is my happy place. I believe in the ocean curing all bad moods. I believe in the waves wiping away worries. I believe seashells bring good luck. I believe in toes in the sand grounding my soul. “

Our loving and devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Friend to all whose lives she touched, she will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
