Daniel Stephens Morris

Daniel Stephens Morris passed away in the loving arms of his wife of 54 years on January 16th 2018 at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach CA after moving here 10 years ago to enjoy his family after his retirement.

Dan was born in Dayton Ohio and had many jobs growing up starting as a soda jerk then a job in a radio job with Junior Achievement. He came to California to the Boy Scout Jamboree with his troop by train. Amazingly he was here as a young guy.

After graduating from Oakwood High School in Dayton Ohio, he moved to Columbus Ohio to attend and graduate from The Ohio State University. He met his wife there and they married in 1963.

From his beginnings as an all night DJ at WTVN as the “Nighthawk” he continued to succeed in the Broadcast Business. Dan became a manager at WCOL/92X. There he started a live street side broadcast with Spook Beckman and they called it the “Bumper to Bumper” room. It was a hit! Then he hired John Fraim to do the Morning Show from the top of the Lincoln Leveque Tower. Another programing winner. He had a fun career with many fine people.

He and Carol moved to North Carolina where he ran two radio stations for Nationwide Insurances Radio Division. They then headed back to his favorite city Columbus Ohio.

Later he became a communications officer for Grange Insurance and enjoyed his opportunities there as well. He was on 39 boards as part of his duties for Grange. Some were The YMCA, BBB.First Community Village, Parents for Drug Free Youth, Ohio Association of Broadcasters,The Governors Healthy Options and The Jazz Arts Group.

Carol and Dan were Members of First Community Church in Columbus and are grateful to Dr. Richard Wing for his many kindnesses in our lives.

He is survived by his wife Carol, his daughter Cristine, her husband Tim, grandchildren, Alexis and Timothy, brother in law John C. Bailie and his wife Lynn.

There will be a memorial service in Columbus in the Spring
