Douglas Keith Wallace

Douglas Keith Wallace, 96, of San Juan Capistrano, died July 5, 2026. He was born January 30, 1930, in Glendale, California, the youngest of four sons of Mabel and Vard Wallace. He graduated from Occidental College in 1952 after spending a year abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris. That same year, he married Eunice Hulbert of Redlands.

Wallace attended Naval Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and, in late 1952, served as a lieutenant junior grade officer aboard the USS Edmonds (Destroyer Escort 406) in the Western Pacific during the Korean conflict. After his Pacific tour, he returned to Honolulu where he and Eunice had their first child. He was honorably discharged from the navy on February 1, 1956.

He earned a J.D. (LL.B.) from the University of Southern California in 1959 and opened a law practice in Newport Beach in 1960 with attorney Jerry Brown, a childhood friend. Wallace purchased a home in Corona del Mar and attended Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Laguna Beach and later Mariners Church in Newport Beach.

In 1973, he built a home on property he purchased in San Juan Capistrano. He retired from his law practice in the late 1990s. After Eunice’s death in 2005, he married Marilyn Skarin in 2007. He divided his time between the two residences eventually living primarily at Marilyn’s home in Corona del Mar.

Wallace maintained interests in cultivating avocado and fruit trees, reading—particularly history—listening to classical music, and following the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was fluent in French and Spanish, and he had a lifelong passion for traveling abroad.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Skarin; his children Gregory, Patrice, Edward, and Christina; their spouses; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
