Dr. Ann Huang Pan Chen, MD passed away on November 9, 2025, in Newport Beach, California, at the age of 50. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Philip Chen and loving mother to Celiya, age 9 and Timothy, age 7.
Born on December 20, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, Ann was the eldest of three children to Dr. Peter Pan and Sylvia Pan. Her early years were shaped by her parents’ commitment to their transcontinental and international medical missions which eventually became based in Taiwan for over 25 years—a legacy that profoundly influenced her own path.
Ann graduated from Morrison Academy in Taiwan and pursued higher education at the University of California, Irvine. She earned her medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Loma Linda University. With a deep love for learning and reading, she later obtained a master’s degree in Library Science from UCLA.
In 2005, Ann began her work as a physician at Orange County Juvenile Hall, where she provided compassionate care to underserved and troubled youth. Her intelligence, positive and easy going nature and quiet strength left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike.
A devout Christian, Ann lived out her faith through acts of service. She volunteered as an usher and served in children’s ministry at the churches she attended. Her dedication extended globally through numerous medical mission trips across Asia, India, and Haiti.
Ann embraced life with joy and curiosity and was a dedicated wife, mother and friend. She enjoyed yoga, snowboarding, fitness activities, reading and exploring the outdoors. A passionate food enthusiast, she delighted in everything from comfort food to fine dining and often posted pictures of her culinary experiences on Instagram. Travel brought her great happiness—especially her almost annual visits to Maui where Ann and Philip were married and to many countries across almost all the continents with her friends and family.
Ann’s childhood nickname is “Uhn-uhn” and is remembered as the loving wife of Phil and “momsen” (kid’s nickname for mommy) of Celiya and Timothy; faithful daughter of Peter and Sylvia; dedicated sister to Joan and Dan; and a favorite niece to Yen Sha and Rosia.
A memorial service celebrating Dr. Ann Huang Pan Chen’s life will be held on December 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, California.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire lives rooted in compassion and faith. Her genuine kindness, easygoing, down-to-earth nature and everlasting beautiful smile and laugh will be missed dearly.
