Dr. Bok Y. Choi, of Coto de Caza, CA, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on March 20, 1942, in South Korea in a small farming village, he attended Chonnam Medical School and then came to the United States to complete his medical training.
He met Hyun Ja while they were both training in Cleveland, and they married in 1968. Together they completed the remainder of their training in Brooklyn, NY, and decided to remain in the U.S. to build their future together.
Dr. Choi became a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and went on to practice in New York, Illinois, and finally California. His skills allowed him to affect countless lives, and he earned the respect and admiration of patients, colleagues, and the communities he served.
Beyond his professional life, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved playing golf and gardening, and he will be remembered as both strong-willed, and compassionate and caring. Dr. Choi is survived by his wife Hyun Ja, three children, and six grandchildren. In lieu of sending flowers, we request that donations be made to Project ALS (projectals.org) in his memory.
