Ed was my neighbor for 17 years on Hendrix street in Irnive and even though we had a love for planes and cars we never really connected until I was responsible for project management for the building of the County-owned T-Hangar at John Wayne Airport where Ed and his partner parked their small GA aircraft.  It was so odd that I would be the person responsible for making that hangar a reality and we really connected more at that stage of life than ever before even though my automotive shop was literally on the same street as his airplane partner in Costa Mesa.  After that Ed and I hustled high and low for contracts and project management projects related to aviation as I continued to handle more and more capital project improvements at John Waye airport where Ed flew out of.  We never flew together which now seems odd but we were always so busy especially after 9-11.  I moved to Florida against my will, but Ed and I stayed close and friends as we both continue to sharpen each other as iron sharpens iron.  What I loved about Ed was that he always was about helping the other person and assuring their needs were met.  Ed and his lovely wife Kerry, me with my wife had an occasion to go to dinner but not as much as I would have liked to.  I think about Ed often especially since I now live at the end of the runway at Pensacola International Airport's main runway.  I hope Ed is up there flying high and enjoying what he has always enjoyed here besides his loving family and that is flying and the pursuit of aviation.

My name is Richard Peralta and I went to Santa Ana High School with Eddie. He always had that big smile on his face.  After high school I lost track of him.  Found out later he was in Vietnam as well as I was in the mid 60’s.  We also used to go surfing to Doheny in his Chevy with our boards stuffed in the trunk of his car.  Great Guy and Great high school friend. Rest In Peace My Brother.  To Eddies family I am sorry for your loss.  God needed another Angel.

My condolences and prayers go out to the Velasquez family.  I met Ed when I was employed at Metro about 18 years ago as a Senior Contracts Administrator.  He was the consummate professional.   He was very helpful to me with my career, urging me to apply for the National Contract Management Association's Fellow award.   Ed was always smiling; always sincere.  He was just a  wonderful human being!  Rest in Heavenly Peace, Ed!  Your physical presence will be missed, but your spirit will live on in the lives of those you touched, including mine.  

HE WAS MY BROTHER

We didn’t always agree on stuff.
He was right on many things.
He was wrong on many things.
He was my brother...& I loved him.

SIX decades of memories...from the 50s on.
We were born and raised in Santa Ana.
Awakened to the smell of homemade flower tortillas...and bacon!
McKinley Grammar School, Lathrop Jr. High, Santa Ana High.
Ed was a Boy Scout and played baseball at Far West Little League.  He was a very good catcher!
Ed joined the Navy and completed two tours in Nam as a jet mechanic on two aircraft carriers.
He returned home and obtained his BA.
He was a son, a brother, a husband and a father to four wonderful children....and grandpa to several beautiful grandchildren.

A few years ago he retired...and soon thereafter he ‘unretired’....and was busier in retirement in a field he loved.
Last Wednesday Ed left this world....way too soon.

We agreed on things & disagreed on things.
He was my brother.......& I loved him.


Ed, so shocked and sad to see you leaving us so suddenly and unexpectedly.  We had so much fun growing up serving together at Miramar and VFP-63.  i have so many great memories of our flag football days, the evening games, all the guys we played with.  I was so grateful to reconnect with you via Face Book, the nice times we had over lunch when you would go out of your way to come by and go to lunch.  Above all, besides your family, your pride at being a Navy vet was unmatched.  You were a true patriot, and I am so proud to call you friend. 

It was with great sadness of my learning of the passing of such a wonderful colleague and friend whom I met through Capitol GCS as we worked together on his post-retirement venture.  We shared the privilege of serving for the government on defense and construction contracts and used our shared knowledge in the development of Capitol GCS. 

Ed had a radiant smile and ensured that when you saw him, your day had just become so much brighter.   I feel so very thankful that I had the opportunity to know Ed and have him become a part of my life.  I feel I am a much better person because of it.

My deepest condolences to the entire Velasquez family on your loss.  May all the good times shared and fond memories help comfort you through this most difficult time.    May Ed rest in eternal peace.

Kerry, Jan and I have been thinking of you and praying for you since we saw the news of Ed's passing on FaceBook. I don't know what to say. I have never lost a spouse so I have no experience but I do know if I lost Jan that the hurt would be more than I can imagine. Ed going so suddenly makes it even worse because you weren't prepared. I know I had that feeling when my father suddenly died when I was 17. You have always been a special person to me and when I met Ed and got to know him the two of you both became very special. Know that you have many who love you and are praying for you and more importantly you have decades of wonderful memories that will help you through all of this. Love, Roger and Jan

Kerry, you and Ed have inspired us throughout our marriage by your utter devotion to each other and family.  I picture Ed rushing into the arms of all who were waiting for him.  The Peases are grieving with you and your family as you mourn Ed’s passing.  Lynne, Jim, Eric and Sarah

Eddie and I would have celebrated our 40th anniversary 11/22/18.....40 years that still wasnt enough time. We shared everything together...the joy of our children and grandchildren, pride in creating a new business, challenges with health issues, fun with friends, excitement in taking cruises.....through it all with such love for each other. I loved you then and will love you forever. Sleep well in the arms of the angels,   beloved of mine. I miss you so!
 

Ed & I met at Orange County Airport as it was called then. He was working there maintaining aircraft including my little Cessna 150. As time went by I upgraded to a Beech Debonair. Ed was immediately working on the plane and teaching me about all one needed to know about this little 4 seater. Over the years we bekame close friends and did a lot of trips by air together. We did many major repairs. He was always there for me. I will treasure my memories of a true friend. I will miss you. 

Ed Velasquez was a great man. We work together many years at Metro and we  kept in touch after we both retired  from Metro. If  you know  Ed  every time you encounter him he was full of energy and excited about some program. I was so happy to hear that they had got a contract with the new electric buses with Metro.  Ed call me to share the great news.  Ed and his lovely wife Kerry  came to Los Angeles Sustainability Coalition event on September 10th at the City Club.  We had a great time. I was blessed to have  Ed  always comes by and supports me. I will miss the man and  his  special friendship.  He has a great spirit and he will definitely be missed . Our prayers go out to  Kerry and the rest of the Velasquez family.  God Bless you at this time.   Dr Sherman Gay 

I just heard a little while ago that Ed passed away - and what a shock given I last saw him in June at an event for the Orange County Chapter of the National Contract Management Association that he kindly hosted at his home.  The event was wonderful, and in retrospect I was so thankful to pass along to him afterwards how much everyone appreciated Kerry's and his hospitality.  

There is not enough space here to list all of the contributions and accomplishments of Ed from the time I knew him starting in 2009.  He donated so much of this time to all facets of Contract Management and he was a leader for all in this area.  Ed will be missed on many levels by many people; and I enjoyed knowing him.  So sorry you are gone because there was still so much more for him to do for which we could have benefited greatly.  My condolences to his wonderful wife Kerry, and his family during this very difficult time which came so unexpectedly.
