Born in Yildiz, Istanbul, in 1931, Engin was the beloved child of Nizamettin Bey and Muzeyyen Hanim. Being the son of a military ambassador of Turkiye, Engin Bey was blessed with the opportunity to travel the world at a very young age.
From seeing pre-war Paris to traversing the plains of the Caucasus to riding in rickshaws in India with his exceptional parents, Engin saw the beauty of the natural world and all people from a very young age.
After graduating as a physician from Istanbul Tip Fakultesi in 1956 and completing his postgraduate training, he uprooted his life and took his biggest and most impactful journey yet.
Engin Bey immigrated to the United States in 1965, blessed with meeting Honorata, who would become his soulmate and his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, in 1972.
Together, they settled together in California, where they raised a family of 4 beautiful children. With his wife, Engin pursued a 33-year career in medicine, full of numerous accolades and achievements, practicing as a hematologist and oncologist at Kaiser Permanente, healing and caring for innumerable patients, and always offering unconditional support and aid to his colleagues.
A man whose curiosity took him across the globe, whose love gave the world 4 beautiful children and 8 grandchildren, whose commitment to care saved so many lives and healed countless more, and whose self-belief lit the path ahead of him, Engin Bey lived an exceptional life.
As he embarks upon his next journey, his surviving family expresses ultimate gratitude for the blessing to have lived and loved with Engin. He is survived by his loving wife, Honorata, his children and their spouses, Nazli, Sami, Yasemin, Jim Bob, Feza, Brad, Erhan, and Heather, and his grandchildren Noah, Melia, Micah, Evie, Zadie, Fletcher, Sophia, Leila, and Kaan, and so many more who experienced his love, stories, care, and affection.
