

Born in San Felipe, Zambales, Philippines, Dr. Fontecha was the youngest of six siblings born to Serafin and Floserfida Fontecha. He grew up in San Felipe, Zambales, and attended Zambales Central Institute for his high school education. Dr. Fontecha then went on to the University of the East for his pre-med and medical school education.
In 1975, Dr. Fontecha moved to the United States. He completed his residency in New York at Coney Island Hospital and Maimonides Hospital, where he met his beloved wife, Carolina Arellano. They were married on June 23, 1978 in Long Island, New York. In July 1984, they moved to California with their 3 children, where Dr. Fontecha started his own medical practice as a family physician and surgeon.
Dr. Fontecha was actively involved in various medical associations, including the UERM Medical School Association, Zambales Central Institute Alumni Association, PMA - Philippine Medical Association, and the Southern California Medical Association.
Dr. Fontecha had a passion for exploring the world with his family and friends. When he wasn't busy with work or traveling, he enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren and tending to his garden. His love for dogs was evident, as he had several furry companions who brought him joy throughout his life. Dr. Fontecha was also an enthusiastic sports fan and a lover of ballroom dancing, often being the life of the party at social events where he would dance the night away.
Described as selfless, humble, sincere, and charismatic, Dr. Fontecha touched the lives of many people and was admired by all who knew him. We will deeply miss his warm smile, kind heart, and captivating spirit. He is survived by his wife Carolina, children Catherine, Ernest Jr., and Cheryl, grandchildren Sage, Phoenix, Ivy, Evan, Beckham, and Mila. And siblings Fred, Lourdes, Remedios, and Percival, and his beloved dogs, Jack, CC, & Presley.
Dr. Fontecha will be greatly missed but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace in the hands of our Lord.
A visitation for Ernesto will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pacific View Legacy Chapel, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625. A visitation will occur Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625. A funeral service will occur Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625.
