Mahnaz went to Brighton College in Sussex, England in 1968 and returned to Iran a few years later where she met her husband, Shamsidean Salimian. They married in 1971 and had their daughter Marmar in 1973.
A few years later, Mahnaz immigrated to the U.S. due to the unrest in her beloved country. Mahnaz was never able to go back “home.” She was fiercely patriotic of Iran and instilled a sense of pride in her daughter by celebrating all of the traditions, such as speaking fluent Farsi, celebrating Persian New Year with unmatchable zest and exuberance, Persian dancing and other sacred traditions.
Mahnaz suffered from various neurological illnesses throughout her life and in her later years suffered from dementia. She passed on May 31, 2023 at the age of 76 at 3:06am surrounded by her loved ones.
Despite her hardships, Mahnaz was a positive, happy, fun loving person who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an outstanding chef, baker and seamstress. She loved fashion and was always impeccably dressed from head to toe.
She spent countless hours with her mother, sewing beautiful clothes for the entire family, as well as, baking delicious treats such as cream puffs, roulette, palmier, baklava and more - all from scratch.
Her laugh was contagious, her love was abundant, her smile was radiant. She had a knack for making you feel special and inviting you with open arms, always waving hello and ready to strike a conversation.
