Tracey, as everyone fondly knew her, was born in Los Angeles, California to her parents Jeanne McDonald and David Brandt.
As a young girl, she moved to French Morocco with her mother, brother and maternal grandparents where she learned to speak French at elementary school. After returning to the United States, she first resided in Phoenix, Arizona before settling in her favorite place, Newport Beach, California.
She graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1963. Her three children and two grandchildren later followed in her footsteps by also attending and graduating from Newport Harbor.
Tracey met her soon to be husband, Larry, in Corona Del Mar in 1967. They were married on May 4, 1968, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Three sons soon followed - Jeffrey, John and Joshua. Tracey’s most cherished and well earned titles were “Ma” and “Grandmama.”
She raised three high energy boys that were artful at constantly challenging her in various ways while keeping her squarely on her toes. She fostered and supported their interests in competitive sports, camping, challenging activities and anything having to do with the ocean. Tracey always rose to any challenge and taught her children they could face anything life threw at them if armed with street smarts and a wicked sense of humor.
Tracy had a unique and optimistic way to view the world as well as difficult situations. She was a trusted sounding board, always available
to offer comforting yet helpful advice to all who knew her when life got tough. You could rely on Tracey to crack a joke at would otherwise be deemed somber moments – that was the type humor that truly carried her family and friends through the joyous times, but especially those that were most difficult. All drew immense comfort from her due to this most endearing trait.
She had a deep zest for life and all that it brought. She adopted many friends of her son’s as her very own along the way. She loved deep and the strong relationships she fostered throughout her life are a testament as to how much those around her meant.
Tracey was a part-time domestic "zookeeper" not only to her three sons but to many cats and dogs over the years. She was the first to open her home to adopt animals in need. Tracey took a special interest in rescuing her beloved Rottweilers. A loving home was consistently provided to many senior and otherwise unwanted animals. She made an insurmountable difference in the lives of many animals which brought immense joy to her and her family.
Once the boys were grown, Tracey filled her peaceful days by dedicating more time to avidly creating hand-made gifts. Her specialty and always anticipated were her individualized Christmas and birthday booties for every member of the family and special friends. She was especially proud of her intricate counted cross-stitch projects commemorating special occasions or “adages.” They truly are and always will be cherished works of art.
Tracey loved having fun and loved even more hearing about those around her enjoying their time in life. She truly was selfless in wishing only the best for those she loved. Her spirit, energy and zest for life will inconsolably be forever missed yet will graciously live on in a special place of the hearts of those that were lucky enough to have known and love her.
Tracey is survived by her loving husband, Larry, adoring sons Jeffrey, John and Joshua, daughter-in-law Şule Klein, grandchildren Keaton, Saşa, Gage, Ethan, Townes and Ellar and brother, Terry Brandt. Preceded in death by Mother, Jeanne McDonald Baskin and Father, David Brandt.
