Gordie MacKenzie

Gordie was born on June 4th, 1946 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada to Harry and Jessie MacKenzie, joining his two sisters Marilyn and Sharon. After attending elementary school in Vancouver, Gordie spent the rest of his school years at Shawnigan Lake Boys’ School on Vancouver Island. He then attended the University of British Columbia, where he played rugby for the UBC Thunderbirds and also made the B.C. Representatives Team playing many international teams. While at UBC, he helped pay his tuition by modeling for Jantzen, Labatt’s Beer commercials, and catalogues for department stores. In 1970, Gordie graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce in Urban Land Economics and went on to spend the next 50 years in the real estate business. After taking the AACI course he got his first job as a real estate appraiser.

In 1971, Gordie married Jennifer Wallace and they bought their first house in Richmond, B.C. Eventually Gordie took a job with Canadian Freehold Properties in Vancouver. In 1976, Gordie and Jen had a daughter, Jordyn, followed by a son, Jamieson, in 1978. By then Gordie was working for Daon Development Co., which led to him becoming a Sr. Vice President. In 1986, Gordie became the President of Daon’s office in Newport Beach. Daon eventually became Brookfield Development and Gordie continued there for many years. Later on, he began working as a consultant for McMillin Companies in San Diego, then leading their Commercial Division. After many years of commuting he decided to semi-retire and spend more time at Eagle Real Estate Group where he was a partner, retiring from there in July, 2019.

Gordie served on numerous boards over the years, some of which were Eagle Real Estate, American Cancer, McMillin Companies, Sunwood, and Priority Living Ministries of which he was a board member for 33 years. He also attended Mariners Church for 34 years and was involved in men’s ministries, mentoring programs and various committees over the years.

Up until the last couple of years Gordie enjoyed travelling, skiing, working out, reading, golfing, walking Balboa Island with Jennifer and cruising the Harbor in his duffy boat. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family and just being “Poppy” to his granddaughters, Brooklyn and Delaney.

Just months before his and Jennifer’s 50th Wedding Anniversary, Gordie lost his battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and went home to be with his Lord on October 17, 2020.
