He was born on December 13, 1922, in American Fork, UT, to Marcelle and Arthur Hawkins.
He served in the USMC during WWII, participated in the campaigns of Guadalcanal, Guam and was injured during the invasion of Iwo Jima. He then returned to Brigham Young University, where he became ASB President and graduated in 1948. He did post-graduate work at NYU in Business Administration. He worked for NYLIC as a life insurance agent and as General Manager in New York, NY, Bakersfield, North Hollywood, and Newport Beach, CA. He authored several books, including “A Camellia For Carolyn” and “Prospecting, Systems for Success”, and co-authored several others. He was a popular public speaker, with audiences throughout the country.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints his entire life.
After retirement, he and his beautiful wife, Yvonne, moved to Palm Desert, CA where he remained active in philanthropic endeavors. He became president of Coachella Valley Arthritis Foundation and chaired the Celebrity Golf Tournament for over 20 years. He received the Jane Wyman Humanitarian Award and numerous other awards for his service. In addition to his love of golf, he loved spending time with his family and sharing his many talents and love with others.
His beloved companion, Yvonne, preceded him in death. He is survived by his 3 children, Debbie Morrison (Bill), Brad Hawkins, Diane Hawkins, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 30522 Via Con Dios, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, with viewing starting at 9:00 AM followed by Memorial Services at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved companion at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar.
