Jackson was born on October 5, 2001 in Long Beach, California to Leland Ronningen and Regina Hovey. He was raised in Seal Beach, California. Since a young age, Jackson’s greatest passion was baseball. He “always felt at ease with the leather glove in one hand and the grip of the seams in the other.” He spent numerous hours on the ballfield, which brought him comfort. His passion for the game helped carry him through rough times and adverse situations. Highlights of his baseball career include pitching two perfect games (the first at the age of 9) and playing on the Cypress High School baseball team that won the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship in 2019. He finished that season with a 0.0 ERA.
Jackson graduated with honors from Cypress High School in 2020. He then matriculated at Williams College, class of 2024, where he studied economics and was recruited as a right-handed pitcher. Although he was only at Williams for a short time, Jackson touched the lives of many, many people. Jackson was a beautiful young man, with a huge heart, and he was a friend to all.
Jackson was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Irene Ronningen. He is survived by his parents Leland Ronningen and Regina Hovey, his sister Mariah Hovey-Ronningen (Fernando Villareal), brothers Luke Ronningen and Nikolai Ronningen (Jessica Ciancio), niece Avery Rose Ronningen, grandparents Rebecca Rojas, and William and Charlotte Hovey, his dog Charlie, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family members.
A Celebration of Jackson’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a service and shared memories at 2:00 p.m., at Pacific View Memorial Park, in Corona del Mar, California.
