

James “Jim” Joubert was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on October 27, 1929. He spent his boyhood years in Portland and Coos Bay, Oregon. Jim joined the Navy in 1948, where he served ten years of active duty and an additional four years in the Naval Reserve, attaining the rank of Chief Aviation Electronics Technician. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in Fighter Squadron VF-884 aboard the USS Kearsarge (CVA-33).
Jim married Betty A. Hammond in 1952 at a small chapel on the Naval base in San Diego, California. Following his discharge from the Navy, Jim attended the FAA Academy located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he received critical training addressing aviation safety. After completion, he moved his family back to California into their forever home in Huntington Beach, where they raised their two children, James and Cheryl. Together, they built years of family memories throughout their 51 years of marriage until Betty passed in 2004.
During that time, Jim was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency where he had a very successful 28 years as an Aviation Safety Officer. There he became a certified Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor, and Aircraft Mechanic. He retired from the FAA in 1986 and spent the next 23 years as an Aviation Consultant.
In 2008, Jim married Sharron Hansen Niemeyer, and after a year they moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where they became active members of the Elks Lodge. Jim served as an Elks Officer for many years and became the Exalted Ruler in 2013. When Sharon passed away in 2023, Jim moved to Orange, California, to be closer to family.
Throughout his life, Jim had a wide range of interests. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed spending time aboard his Islander 36, sailing to Catalina Island and racing in local races as a member of the Seal Beach Yacht Club. He also made several RV trips, visiting nearly every state in America. Jim’s other interests included hunting, fishing, and ham radio (W7ASJ). Making memories and sharing them with his family always came first.
His son, James H. Joubert, preceded him in death on November 3, 2023. Jim is survived by his daughter, Cheryl “Cheri” and son-in-law Paul Gabert of Orange, daughter-in-law Sylvia Joubert of Yorba Linda, five Granddaughters, and ten Great-Grandchildren, all residing close to one another in Southern California.
Services and internment will be held by Pacific View Memorial Park located in Corona del Mar, CA.
