Janice Ann Cavanaugh

Janice Ann Cavanaugh was born on November 22, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. She was raised in Long Lake, Illinois and moved to San Marino, California as a teenager. She passed away on June 17, 2026 at the age of 88 ½ at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills, California.

Jan was the daughter of Dorothy Eleanor Hodson and Glen Andrew Hodson and a loving big sister to Glen Alan Hodson and Heather Hodson Garrison, who survives her. Growing up in Long Lake, Illinois, Jan loved ice skating on their frozen pond in the winter and competing in sailing competitions in the summer. Jan was a very competitive woman, as anyone who ever played cards or backgammon with her knew, she played to win. Her sense of fun, competitive nature, and most especially her dedication to and love of family will always be remembered.

Jan attended Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California for two years where she earned her AA. While at PCC, she was president of their local sorority, PAM, where she was an active member and she considered her “PAM sisters” her closest and dearest friends. After PCC, Jan spent a year abroad in Florence, Italy, continuing her education and enjoying a European adventure and having the time of her life! Jan was a very outgoing and socially active young lady who enjoyed traveling and also taught swim lessons in her free time.

Jan married Thomas Jordan Cavanaugh on December 31, 1958. Jan and Tom lived in Arcadia, California and they later moved to Newport Beach, California. Jan and Tom enjoyed an outdoor lifestyle including sailing trips to Catalina Island and fishing off their boats in Avalon Harbor. She also loved her vacation homes in Lake Arrowhead, California and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. One of her greatest pastimes was decorating her homes.

Jan is survived by her three children, Jordan Hays Cavanaugh, Janice Ann Cavanaugh and Erin Cavanaugh Domenech. Jan absolutely loved being a wife and a mother. She led an active life raising her three children, playing tennis, going on snow skiing and shelling trips, and traveling with her family and friends. Jan was also a grandma to nine grandchildren and a great-grandma to four great grandchildren.
