Jin was born on August 4, 1937 in South Korea where as a young boy, he witnessed the devastation of the Korean War and tumultuous years afterwards. He first visited the United States in the late 1950’s as part of a military partnership that brought South Korean military personnel to the US after the War. Inspired by liberty and freedom found in the US, he immigrated to Landover, Maryland in 1972 with determination, courage, and hope for a better future.
In 1974, his entrepreneurial spirit compelled him to move the family to Los Angeles, where he found opportunity and a place to put down lasting roots. He became an Orange County resident in 1976 with a move to Santa Ana, and then Lake Forest in 1978 where he remained for the rest of his life.
Through hard work, perseverance, and integrity, he built a life centered on family and responsibility—truly living out the hope of the American Dream. He believed deeply in showing up, providing, and doing things the right way. His sacrifices have opened doors for future generations, and his legacy lives on in the values he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He shared 59 years of marriage with Mun, building a home grounded in commitment, through his patience and resilience. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, quietly guiding them through example and steady support.
Jin is survived by his wife Mun Ja Kim, his son Brendon Kim (Esther), his daughter Anne Suri (Glenn Briggs), and six grandchildren Taz Suri, Chloe Kim, Ethan Kim, Zephyr Suri, Lucy Kim, and Zeal Suri. He was preceded in death by his father Jong Hwan Kim, his mother Chil Nam Kwon, and his sister Jinny Rhee. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, humility, work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family. His life stands as a testament to gratitude, grit, and the enduring promise of opportunity.
He will be deeply missed and forever honored.
