Joan Elizabeth Miller

Born on September 18, 1932, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange, California, Joan lived a life filled with love, adventure, and lasting friendships. She made her home in Newport Beach, California, spent cherished time in Mexico, and found great happiness in Poipu, Kauai.

She is lovingly survived by her two daughters; three grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Joan shared a remarkable love story with her husband, John, her high school sweetheart. Together they built a beautiful life and celebrated 69 wonderful years of marriage, creating a legacy of love, devotion, and exploration that inspired everyone who knew them. Whether traveling the world, visiting new places, or simply embracing life's everyday moments together, they shared an enduring spirit of curiosity and adventure that enriched their lives and those around them.

Joan embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. An avid traveler, she journeyed to 65 countries across five continents, always eager to experience new cultures and meet new people. She enjoyed camping, relaxing at the beach, and taking cruises that allowed her to continue exploring the world. She loved the ocean and spent countless hours diving for and collecting beautiful seashells, a passion that reflected her appreciation for the beauty of nature.

Joan believed in living an active and healthy life. She enjoyed cycling, running, hiking, and swimming, and found great happiness being outdoors. Whether hiking scenic trails, taking a swim, or setting out on a long bike ride, she approached every activity with energy and enthusiasm. During the busy summer months on the Balboa Peninsula, she often rode her bicycle to the grocery store, happily avoiding the traffic brought by the influx of tourists. It became one of the many simple pleasures that reflected her practical nature and love of staying active.

An excellent cook, Joan delighted family and friends with delicious meals and treasured gatherings around the table. Joan valued friendship and community and an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, where she formed many lifelong relationships and generously gave her time and support.

Joan will be remembered for her sweet and gentle nature, fun-loving spirit, her warmth and generosity, her love of family, and her ability to make every gathering feel special. Her kindness, grace, joyful approach to life, and genuine compassion for others will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her family takes comfort in the many wonderful memories she created and the lasting legacy of love she leaves behind.
