I had the great privilege to work with Mr. Gonzalez as his Financial Advisor for over 15 years.  We shared 100’s of conversations over those years.  I would meet him at the Pelican Hill home as it was being built and he had such pride walking me through the construction project that he was managing HIMSELF as the contractor AND doing physical work on the property and negotiating contractors.  I remember Mrs. Gonzalez, Mercedes, there as well helping with the gardening and around the house and they were both such hard workers.  Some of the conversations we would have together were hours long.  We would talk about Real Estate and how he came to the US as a young man with very little means From Cuba,  to building his several hundred unit Real Estate empire, and the hard work and the joy and pride he took in it all.  I respected Mr. Gonzalez completely, and I learned so much from all our conversations.  He took me out to some of the apartment buildings and showed me around and how they were gold mines with just some rehabilitation, paint, and good property management.   During many of our meetings together at the house he would ask me to name any country in the world and he could tell me the capital city...  Try and Try as I might to stump him I do not think I ever did - Literally - I could say ‘Estonia’ or ‘Sudan’ or ‘Kazakhstan’ and he would rattle off all the capital cities perfectly and was so sharp.  He always had his bible open on the table at Pelican Hill house and would read it often as a man of great faith.  We would talk about our faith together at times.  He would share with me how proud he was of his Family often, his wife Mercedes his daughter Mercedes and especially his two Grandsons Joseph and Jonathan.  He would light up telling me stories about his interactions with Joseph and Jonathan when they were boys and the cute and funny conversations they would have, and I could see the Joy and love, and how proud he was of them.
