Kate Plata, passed away at the age of 64 on Monday February 17, 2020 due to complications of pneumonia after battling Stage 4 lung cancer over the last year. Kate was born on October 17, 1955 in Wolczyn, Poland. As a teen, she became a refugee from Poland and moved to Austria. She then made passage to the United States and lived in New York and New Jersey where she gave birth to her son, Dave Chojna. In 1983, Kate and David moved to California where she later received degrees from Cal State Long Beach in Human Resource Management and Golden West College in Recycling and Resource Management. Kate started her own paralegal business and worked in the court systems as a Polish interpreter. She later changed career paths to follow her passion in interior design. Kate loved decorating homes for Christmas and had such a magical way of transforming houses for the holiday season. In 2014, she began working at Rancho Mission Viejo. She loved working at the Ranch as well as hiking, biking, swimming and traveling the world. Spending time with her granddaughters on the weekends was her favorite thing to do. Kate was preceded in death by her son David, his partner Rachel, her two granddaughters, Eve and Juno, her two brothers Willie and Jonny, and his wife Jola and their daughter Justyna.
