Lisa was my friend but we hadn't seen one another for quite some time.   We celebrated together when she received her JD.  We read books and I discussed them at length.  We had Redondo Beach in our souls.  I am sad that we hadn't seen one another in so long and have been thinking about her, wondering if she had retired.  She was instrumental in helping me when my husband was injured.  I am saddened to hear of this and send my deepest condolences.

Professor Litwiller taught me civil procedure. Civil procedure is the single most important class for my practice that I took in law school and Professor Litwiller was amazing. I often think of her school bus tour of the procedures. I also remember well how brilliant she was. She worked on some of the most complex cases of our time and she was a kind and generous person with her time to boot. Our profession and our community will suffer without her. While I’m comforted by the fact that she is no longer suffering, I will miss seeing her and seeking her guidance. My condolences to her loved ones.

In the chaos and ensuing anxiety that was our 1L year a student was struggling to give Professor Litwiller the answer. He had the correct answer, but Litwiller's stone cold demeanor had him nervous. I encouraged him, and she said "It's always nice to get a little encouragement from your friends." 

In the same year, during our second semester, I had struggled on my final for her Civil Procedure class from the previous semester. She offered to read any and all essays I would write from that point until our final in the coming semester. She was always willing to help. 

I was most impressed with her ability to be so concise. She had laser focus, and could reduce the stilted subject that is Civil Procedure to a few truncated rule statements. She was a wonderful, brilliant person.  I will definitely miss her.

Professor Litwiller was such a commanding presence in the classroom and such a wonderful person.  You will be missed,  and always remembered. 

I’m so sorry to hear of Professor Litwiller’s death.  My thoughts are with her family and friends. She taught one of my very first courses, Contracts. She demonstrated and taught me respect, even reverence, for the law, as well as thoroughness, understanding, and precision. Her mark on my life and my practice of law has been indelible. We lost a good one; Lisa will be missed. 

Professor Litwiller was my civil procedure professor my 1L year. She had such a positive impact on me during a really difficult time in my life. She always gave me the encouragement and words of wisdom that I needed and is one of the reasons I gained the courage to keep going. She was an incredible professor and her brilliance was unmatched. She made me truly enjoy a subject I was terrified of and she was an absolute inspiration to all of us. She will be deeply missed, but she will always carry a special place in our hearts as one of the best professors we’ve ever had. We were blessed to have gotten the opportunity to take her class.

You were my favorite professor in law school. Your intelligence, professionalism, and kindness made me want to be a better lawyer. Thank you for your dedication to training students to be the best they can be. You are dearly missed.

It was just a month ago that I thought about writing you a thank you letter--one that would be 7 years past due.  You gifted your students with some of the most valuable lessons that they would use during their legal careers. Who would have thought Civil Procedure was the only class that gave law students real lawyer skills? Though you gave tough love, you were well loved. Thank you.
