Lola was born on March 26, 1933 to Ina Christina and Leonard Slack Newby in Monroe, Utah. Growing up, she liked helping her mother around the house and in the kitchen. She made a lot of her own clothing and was always well dressed, a quality she continued throughout her life.
She met John Ewles at the bowling alley in Richfield and that began a romance lasting nearly 70 years. They married on November 15, 1952, and became the parents of three sons, Larry, Steve and David. During their early married life, they spent their time in Salt Lake City and Richfield but eventually accepted an invitation from John’s cousin to move to Southern California. On May 29, 1954, they packed up everything they owned in their 1941 Dodge and headed to California. Her father, Leonard, cried for two hours after they backed out of the drive.
Lola enjoyed golfing, traveling with friends and family, hosting parties during the holidays, and visiting relatives in Utah.
Lola is survived by her three sons and their wives; Larry (Darlene) Ewles, of Murrieta, CA, Steve (Kelly) Ewles, of Dana Point, CA, and David (Jana), of Newport Beach, CA; nine grandchildren, Darla, Adam, Ericka, Kevin, Stephanie, Madeline, Parker, Jack, Jane; and four great grandchildren, Chelsie, Ellie, Tyler, and Benjamin.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Ewles; and brothers, LaCoy, Marell, Verl and Sherrel Newby.
