Marcial R. Mancillas

Marcial Raul Mancillas, age 96, of Newport Beach, CA died peacefully on July 6, 2026. He was preceded in death two months earlier by his loving wife, Mary Louise. They were married almost 70 years. Marcial is survived by his children, Kurt (Cindy), Lori (Sal) Eric and Marshall (Kristy) and his grandchildren, Kendall and Dylan Mancillas, Trevor (Kendra) Gladych, Ryan (Donna) Gladych, Blake and Kevin Mancillas and two great-grandchildren, Michael John and Elly Gladych. His memory will be cherished.

Marcial grew up in Southern California. He was born at the height of the Great Depression, was a child during the years of WWII and became a young man during the Korean War. He learned early the value of a strong work ethic and the importance of providing for your family. As a young man, he was a member of The Sea Scouts. His time as a Scout helped foster his leadership skills, his respect for the importance of teamwork and his sense for adventure.

Marcial joined Louis Roth and Company in the 1950’s. It was a top tier men’s suit manufacturer. During his time at Louis Roth, Marcial learned the intricate details of crafting fine garments. He was a self-taught men’s clothing engineer. He mastered his craft not in the schoolroom but through hard work and learning from the Italian artisans and technicians that were in the business. In the early 1960’s, Louis Roth sent Marcial to Chicago to acquire and then run The Kuppenheimer Clothing Manufacturing company. He was later hired by Hart, Schaffner and Marx (currently Hartmarx) to be head of operations. By the 1970’s, Marcial’s entrepreneurial spirit took flight. He founded Mancillas International, the first importer of men’s suits and sportscoats. Mancillas International became a premier manufacturer for quality private label men’s suits and sportscoats throughout the US and Mexico.

Marcial had a keen eye and sense of style, which lead him to his second passion, architecture. He designed several of the company distribution centers and two of the family homes. He often discussed with his children and grandchildren the fine points of a home’s style both technical and aesthetic. Marcial never left a room without “fixing” the angle of a chair, a book on a table, or the placement of a painting.

Marcial was a firm believer in balancing work and fun. He was an avid racquet player, primarily tennis and platform tennis. He and Mary Louise were often found on golf courses close to home or on far flung vacations. The family has many wonderful memories of family vacations spent together in Hawaii and in Puerto Rico.

Marcial was a man of many talents. He was always curious to learn and to experience new things. He was a man of vision and spirit. Above all he was a man who loved his family unconditionally.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 18th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint John Vianny Chapel, Balboa Island, California.
