Mama Susie,
It's been almost a year now and it's about time for my comments.  I want you to know that I miss you so much it hurts. You were a wonderful person and a most gracious mother-in-law.  I have learned alot from you, from cooking and gardening to music and of course gossip!!  I miss our gossip sessions after dinner.  I miss and remember fondly so much, from your "comida china" meals without Hector, to the late night runs at Crystal Cove, to the  managing of your health care with doctors, hospitals, rehab centers, dialysis, etc, etc.  I learned to be so strong for you; I only hope I made your last year as comfortable as possible.  We all have so many lasting memories of you and I was very blessed to have you in my home and in my heart.  
I love you and hope you are at peace - rest easy now.

tengo muchos recuerdos. Fui paje en la boda de mi madrina susy. Siempre encontre afecto y apoyo y la respuesta a todo era  con una sonrisa y consejo. Tantos años de convivencia familiar que dejaron recuerdos que siempre estaran presentes.

Victor, I'm terribly sorry for your loss. It came as a surprise even if I knew you were out of town because your mum was sick. Wish I checked my work email earlier. Hope you feel better now, and hope to see you soon. Hug.

We will always keep you in our hearts and cherish the good memories. You were the life of the party and your beautiful voice will be dearly missed.

The fastest memories I have of my mother are ones where she would be yelling at me. Probably because I was the middle child, the troublemaker and clown of the family. She always had cause to put me in line. From the moment when I refused to be dropped off on my first day of kindergarten ( crying all the way) , to her insistence that I voluntarily eat chile Serranos ( while my sister upstaged me by eating them like carrots) , to more recently lecturing me of the dangers of drinking a bit too much. My mother was always a super Mom....keeping me in line. She also enjoyed the chance tag team with my wife and daughter to guide me to better living.

However, the lasting memories of my mother will always be the lessons she taught us on Family, love, music and hard work. She was a great example to me, my siblings and many others on what a parent is willing to do to support the  Family. Her efforts in running a store and butcher shop in Aguascalientes, Juarez and Chicago....many times alone with her 3 small children and her many displays of courage in defending what she treasured...her kids.....sometimes with a large butcher knife as was the case in Juarez. No one could have loved us more. No one could have worked harder for our Family Unit. No one could have given us more joy and love.
But along the way, her love for life through her Faith, Music and thankfully food, showed us that while we desire goods and wealth, Life was much more. She was fiercely loyal to her family Clan from her small town, Juliantla. Listening to the lively music that inspired her to dance and sing was also inspiring for us because she brought it to life by the dance and the lovely voice. Her cooking was wonderful and she enjoyed teaching us the recipes. She was my walking cookbook...even if some of the pages were forgotten along the way as her memory failed her.
Yes.....the fast memories make me laugh and smile and I will miss her " yelling" at me. But it is the lasting memories that make me cry...because this son could not be much of a man without the blessings imparted to me by Maria de Jesus (Susy) Fitz de Cuellar. I will miss you Mama

Even in the distance, our beloved Tia Susy's passing has been greatly felt by us the Fitz-Ocampos. Always with a good face even in hard times and a great disposition to enjoy life, she remains a beacon of resilience... an example of how it always comes out right when you put your heart into things. As the last living sister of our Abuelo Simeon, she also takes something else from this world with her, so it is our hope and our prayer that they may be together again in a much better place now. Our most sincere condolences, to Victor, Hector and their families. May you all find hope and comfort in this time of sorrow.

It is one of those times when you know who you know who you should spend time with.  People who are full of life who enjoy it with it's full potential every moment of it.  I always knew La senora Maria was that person by knowing her a few times and by spending good times with her Son Victor.  I always did, and I always will admire her as a wonderful person she was.  She is one of very few I think of inspiration of how we can make life a better place to live and enjoy it to it's full potential as she did.  May she rest in peace.

It is with a very heavy heart and great sadness that I convey to you the news of the passing of my beloved mother
Maria De Jesus Fitz de Cuellar.  Many of you  had come to know her as the cheerful and happy person that she was,
always friendly, with a smile and always willing to share her great love of music with her lovely voice.  She was a
great woman, having come from very humble origins in a little village in Mexico, becoming a very respected person
in the Mexican Community of Chicago of her day.  She was very giving, as a member of the Cordi-Marian Auxiliary,
a group of women devoted to raising funds for the nuns that were so instrumental in helping the immigrant community 
of Chicago.   There, she shared friendships with the likes of Arturo Velazquez, and Irene Hernandez , some of the 
political pioneers of the Mexican community of Chicago.   She was an exceptional woman for one having had little 
formal education.  She accomplished her dreams, founding, along with her husband,  the companies that were the
foundation for her future and that of our family.  She was the pillar of strength and vision and love that led her two 
sons to be college educated and successful.  She was a woman that we will always be proud of and will be greatly missed.
May she rest in peace and may God have her by his side.

Our prayers are with all the Cuellars at this special time.  I have fond memories of being with Hector's Mom in the apartment in Pilsen and at the house in Mexico City, and in the earthquake we experienced in the South American music club so many years ago.  Rest well, the memories will live on in all our minds for many years to come.  Love from the Fitzpatrick's John, Susan, Sarah, Kevin, Mike and Brian.
