Marian Groussman

Marian was born in Oto, Iowa and attended the local school from kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating summa cum laude in a class of 22 students in 1957. From there, she attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa for three years, achieving an Iowa teaching certificate. She continued her education in California and graduated in 1961 from Sacramento State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Education, and got her California teaching credential. Marian taught in the Long Beach School District at Tincher Elementary. Marian married Max Groussman in August 1963 at Temple Beth Sholom in Tustin. She began teaching in the Orange Unified School District in 1963 at Tustin Memorial Elementary School. She left teaching to start a family, and once her three children were attending elementary school, Marian went back to teaching at Imperial Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and remained there for 21 years.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Elnora and Frank Sawin, and her brothers, Alvern, Charles, Robert, Pierce, and Sidney Sawin. She is survived by her husband, Max Groussman (Anaheim, CA), her brother Sherman Sawin, and wife, Gloria (Anaheim, CA), her children, Jennifer Golan (Riverside, CA), Jeffrey Groussman, and wife, Janel (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and Denise Blake, and husband, Chris (Bennington, NE), and eight grandchildren, Sage, Rayce, Clay and Colt Golan; Jett and Shelby Groussman; and Peyton and McKenna Blake. She is also survived by her remaining sister-in-laws, Gloria Sawin (Springfield, MO) and Linda Sawin (Redondo Beach, CA), and numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to acknowledge the excellent care Marian received during her last few months from the caring staff of Park Terrace Assisted Living Facility.

Services to be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 2:00pm at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California.
