Mrs. Nancy Mary Imlay Edwards ended one journey and began another on March 22, 2015. Nancy was born to Scot and Irish parents on the South side of Chicago on October 24, 1946. Nancy died at Silverado San Juan Capistrano after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
“Some people come into our lives and quickly go….Others stay for a while, leaving footprints on our hearts”
Known for her smile and friendship, Nancy traveled a long way from Beverly, Illinois, visiting over 40 countries and living in five. Nancy’s oldest daughter, Heather, was born in Indonesia and her youngest daughter, Amy, was born in Alaska. While it might appear Nancy followed Bill around the world on his oil & gas and franchise development career, Nancy spent an immense amount time volunteering to train nurses and therapists in numerous far out, small villages and in orphanages. In 1976 while living in Indonesia, Nancy and Bill were invited to the U.S. Ambassador’s home on the 200th Centennial on the 4th of July due to Nancy’s social welfare work.
Nancy was a clinical, registered Physical Therapist and in the late 1990s was Regional Director for Physical, Speech, Occupational and Recreational Therapy for thirteen nursing homes. Over her 35 year career she worked in burn, sports and geriatric clinical therapy. While Nancy’s bedside manner was exceptional, she was especially good working with older patients, many of whom had Alzheimer’s. In 2010 Nancy was given Life Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association.
Nancy and her husband, Bill, have been honored to make friends in many countries across the past five decades. Nancy and Bill met in 1965 at St. Louis University on a blind date. Nancy’s immense value to her family and friends and her immense patience with her husband will remain in our hearts forever.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bill Edwards. Her two daughters, Amy Seals and Heather Edwards, her sister, Mary Ellen Mitchell, her grand daughter, Sofia Seals and son-in-law, Aaron Seals.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the University of California Institute of Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders where Nancy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and where she was an early onset research project at her own request. The family also request that donations be made in the name of the Nancy Imlay Edwards Foundation. www.NancysLegacy.org
