Steve reminded me of your mansion on Presidio Drive. How could I forget? That place was so incredible! It’s like a dream it ever happened, but I can visualize it perfectly. What a grand childhood we had there as well! Geez, if it weren’t for your parents, our childhood would have been a bore!!! Steve and I always reminisce about Newport and Presidio and are so grateful to have shared so many memories with you, our dear and fun cousins. I hope all these memories are as wonderful and vivid as they are for me and Steve. Love you!

Uncle Otto was always my favorite uncle and will be greatly missed.  My fondest memories of him and moments of my childhood were at his beachhouse in Newport Beach.  My cousins Sheryl, Trey, my sister Candee and I spent many, many summers surfing, swimming, body surfing, skim boarding, beach combing, clam digging, and watching fireworks on the beach each 4th of July.  My Dad and Otto would always take all the clams we found and make their favorite clam chowder.  Another great memory is when I found his gun, helmet, and artifacts from WWII buried in his garage on Presidio Dr. when I was a kid.  I was amazed and honored when he told me served in the Philippines in WWII.  Uncle Otto was really an awesome man.  In the words of Bob Hope...."thanks for the memories."

Sheryl and Trey, I am so sorry for your loss.  You were blessed to have your beloved Dad be with you for all those years, and I am sure that you both being there for him brought him great comfort.  I grew up in the house across the street from your mom and remember when they first started dating, while Elaine worked at the old Coulter's Department Store on Wilshire Boulevard and your dad was working there while going to UCLA.  But what I really remember was his owning and racing stock cars at the old Carroll Speedway in Gardena and going to the races with him.  He was NASCAR before there was NASCAR!  He also drove some cool cars.  He would ask me from time to time to help him put up real estate signs for W. H. Daum and Staff.  That experience sparked my interest in becoming an Industrial Realtor, just like Otto!  I too enjoyed the beach house, as I was a surfer and some of the best surf was right in front of that house!  Otto and Elaine were like family when! I was growing up and I appreciated their friendship all those years ago!  Otto was a man of impeccable professionalism and personal integrity!  He will be missed!   

I loved my Uncle Otto. I remember him always smiling, always kind, gentle, and loving. He and your family gave us the best childhood ever getting to grow up with you at the beach house in Newport. Those are my all-time favorite memories. I loved my Aunt Elaine so much as well and she, too, was as warm and joyful and loving as your dad. I’ve long anticipated and dreaded losing our parents, our aunt and uncle. What will life be like when your parents and beloved relatives are no longer a physical presence in your life? We’ve come to know it now with a mix of smiles and tears. And, fortunately, we still have each other. Love and hugs to my dear cousins, Sheryl and Trey.  Candee
