Patsy Joline Murphy was born July 7th, 1932 in Oklahoma City, OK. Her father Benjamin Murphy was a geological engineer for the US Government. Her mom, Helen, was a PE teacher for a short time. Patsy was predeceased by her son, Scott who died at age 40 from a heart attack and her sister Sue who died last year. Patsy’s husband Ralph died in 2014 from lung cancer. Patsy is survived by her daughter Sharon Baltzell who resides in San Clemente, her granddaughter Lauren Nicole Hemighaus, who lives in New York City and her sister Tara White who resides in Shasta, CA.
Growing up, Patsy’s family moved quite a bit due to her father’s job requirements. She remembered living in Casper, Wyoming and Taft, CA. She later went to UCLA where she majored in Nursing and met her future husband, Delwin Woock. Del and Patsy were married August 23, 1952. Their daughter, Sharon Sue was born in 1955 and their son Scott Delwin was born in 1958. She quit school to get married and raise her children but later finished her degree and went on to get her Masters in Nursing once her children were in school full time.
The family lived in San Gabriel and Patsy became a school nurse and worked at Alhambra City Schools of which twenty-five years were spent at San Gabriel High School. In 1974 Del and Patsy were divorced and Patsy moved to Arcadia where she continued to work as a school nurse until 1990. She then moved to San Clemente when her granddaughter, Lauren, was born in 1991 in Laguna Beach, as she wanted to be close to her while she grew up.
Patsy loved living in San Clemente to fulfill her lifetime desire to live near the ocean. Her house had fabulous sunset views and she never tired of them. In retirement, she loved to babysit her only grandchild, Lauren. They spent many happy days having tea parties, coloring, and reading books. Her other hobbies included gardening, reading, and knitting. She was also an accomplished watercolor artist.
Patsy met her second husband Ralph Kraals at the gym in a Seniors class. Ralph asked her after class to get a cup of coffee and from that day they became inseparable. Patsy and Ralph were married on May 9, 2010 and had 4 very happy years together before Ralph succumbed to lung cancer.
Patsy sold her San Clemente house in 2014 and moved into the San Clemente Villas, an Independent Senior living complex. She loved living there because there were so many activities and outings. She was particularly good and Bingo and won most of the times she played. She also loved not cooking and having three meals a day prepared for her.
Patsy’s loving and cheerful outlook will be missed by all who knew her.
