Cobb was born on December 21st, 1938, in McAlester, Oklahoma to Ova Hoy and Billie Lou Grantham. During his life, Cobb lived in McAlester, Oklahoma; Terre Haute, Indiana; Okinawa, Japan; Hong Kong; Long Beach, California; Seattle, Washington; San Francisco, Walnut Creek, California and Newport Beach, California. He grew up in both Indiana and Oklahoma with his twin sister, Carolyn, and older brothers, Albert and John. Some of his fondest memories were on the family farm in McAlester, Oklahoma, with his maternal grandparents, Papa (Frank Anderson) and Granny Madge, his siblings and his cherished mother, Billie, the matriarch of the family. It was on the farm that Colbert developed a love for nature, a deep appreciation for his Chickasaw heritage, and the skill and grit that made him an accomplished goat roper. In Indiana, Colbert competed in football, track, and basketball, but it was on the football field that he especially stood out. Colbert and his twin sister Carolyn were inseparable growing up, even going on double dates together. After graduating from Indiana State University with a degree in business, Cobb joined the United States Marine Corps, which eventually brought him to California, where he met Susan, the love of his life.
He was an active member of Mariners Church of Newport Beach and then St. James Anglican Church. For more than 30 years, Cobb and Susan opened their home to small groups, and for more than 20 years they served together teaching Sunday school and VBS. Professionally, Cobb devoted nearly 25 years to DSL, a pioneering global logistics company he helped build with great dedication, until it’s sale. He gave himself faithfully to his work, and those who worked with him respected him not only for his leadership, but for his integrity, honesty, and genuine care for people. After DSL, Cobb dedicated the next 15 years to giving more of himself to the Lord’s work. He devoted much of that season to St. James Anglican Church, serving on the vestry and traveling on mission trips in support of the Anglican Church in Africa. He also gave his time and heart to Every Generation Ministries, serving on the board and participating in mission trips with Daniel Watts. Cobb loved the Lord, his beloved Susan, his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren dearly. To his extended family, Cobb was a caring, humorous, and deeply loved uncle whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression. His life was marked by generosity, faithfulness, service, humility, and deep devotion to his family, his church, and the work of God’s Kingdom.
Cobb is survived by his beloved children, Jeanne and husband, Marty, John and wife, Brenda, and Hagen and wife, Lauren; his beautiful grandchildren, Brianna, Giovanna, Zachary, Joshua, Grace, Sarah, Ava, Micah and Nora; and his twin sister Carolyn Wright.
