Ray Garrett

NIBLEY – Ray Paul Garrett, 86, of Providence, Utah, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, of complications due to pancreatic cancer.

Ray was born to U. Lynn and Della Garrett on Dec. 31, 1923, in Los Angeles, Calif. He married Adelia "Didi" Kleinschmidt on Jan. 29, 1944, in Tucson, Ariz.

Ray served in World War II as a top gunner in B-17s and B-24s. He was stationed in Sudbury, England, and flew 33 successful missions. He was very proud of his service to his country and made many friendships with fellow airmen as well as those who lived in Sudbury.

Ray was a longtime educator in California, beginning in 1949 as an agriculture education teacher and ending his career as a public school administrator in 1985. He then became a regional director for Association of California School Administrators for a number of years. He was also very active in community affairs, being a member of the Twentynine Palms Rotary club for almost 30 years and then as a member of the Ogden Noon Exchange club for a number of years. He was very close to his family and loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild as well as with extended family. He loved to travel and visit old friends and relatives.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Marsha Lynn Saben (Larry), El Cajon, Calif., and son, Marshal Ray Garrett (Julie), Logan, Utah. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jamie Saben (Gurvinder), Jon Saben (Abigail), Becca Timme (Drew), Brynn Eyre (Nate) and Kate Packer (Brysen); and one great-grandchild, Lucas Eyre. He was preceded in death by his wife, Didi, daughter, Cindy, and brother, U. Lynn Garrett.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Lindquist's North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.

Family will visit with friends at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment with Military Honors will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, in Newport Beach, Calif.

A very special thank you to the residents and staff of Cache Valley Assisted Living who were such a big part of Ray's life. Also, special thanks to Access Home Care and Hospice for their loving care of Dad.
