Ron was born in North Hollywood, CA in 1935 to Orville and Dale Hallam. Ron was raised in Glendale, CA. It was a magical place for children then, where they could have dirt clod fights in forts and explore the many vacant lots and nearby hills without worry. He graduated from Hoover High School.
Ron graduated in 1956 from Occidental College, in Los Angeles, CA. His classes included four years of Air Force ROTC. He then opted to sign up for three more years of service with the Air Force. He felt fortunate to be an important part of that time in history. Ron was able to travel to seventeen countries during those years of service.
After the Air Force, he spent 37 years with Pacific Telephone Company where he earned his MBA in Finance from Golden Gate University, and an MSBA in information systems, finance and accounting from USC. He also became a Certified Internal Auditor, a Certified Information Systems Auditor, and a Certified Fraud Examiner. In 1993 he joined the L.A. Metropolitan Transit Authority, and became their Deputy Director of Audit. Prior to and after retiring, he taught several thousand students, (mid-career adults) helping them to complete their degrees and expand their life learning.
Ron was a member of the Sierra Club and a Western history organization called the Westerners. He had a tremendous respect for wilderness and nature. He loved living near the beach where he found the sounds and sights of the ocean, bay and sailboats so calming and peaceful.
He was passionate about reading and was a great friend of the Newport Beach Public Library. Ron’s favorite time of day was the evening when he could quietly read and spend time with his best friend and dear wife, Virginia.
Ron is survived by his wife, Virginia; three daughters, Sherry Hallam, Cindy Hanna and Carolyn Moody; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Private services were held July 1, 2011 at the Garden of Valor, Pacific View Memorial Park, Corona del Mar, CA
As a memorial, Ron would be very pleased if you would treat yourself (and a guest or two or five) to dinner at a nicer restaurant than you would usually go to, and tell a story or two about him that makes you laugh.
Arrangements under the direction of Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary FD1176, Corona Del Mar, CA.
