Russ is renowned internationally for the variety and masterful quality of his work. He earned his degree at SUNY Buffalo and the San Francisco Art Institute. He worked in many styles, subjects and media, and yet there is a common thread that runs through all of his diverse pieces – they each tell an intriguing story. Some of his one-man exhibitions included The National Academies of Science and Engineering, Universal Studios, The Robert Mondavi Wine Center and the American Cancer Society. He also produced a large body of commissioned pieces for such notable clients as The Walt Disney Company, Hilton Marriott and Sheraton hotels, The Greater Los Angeles World Trade Center and for numerous institutions and collectors around the globe. Design was another aspect of the artist’s oeuvre, including residential and commercial interiors and exteriors, special events and theatrical designs.
Russ’s parents Dorothy Ann and Milton Winfred Butler as well as his sister Peggy Barbas preceded Russ in death. Surviving family members will miss Russ tremendously, especially his brother Bob.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society in honor of Russ Butler.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Pacific View Memorial Park located in Corona del Mar, California.
