Sean waged a two-year battle against lung cancer. Despite repeated hospital stays, he never lost his sense of self, life, and humor. He documented his experience and his outlook on life and death throughout the journey in a blog, inspiring tens of thousands of readers. His writings were a source of joy and sadness. But, more importantly, they led his readers to no longer fear death, but, rather embrace it with love and courage.
Sean was born to Xinghua Wu and Jimin Xu, on December 27, 1954, in Guiyang, China. He grew up with his younger sister, Xianglan Wu, and younger brother, Xiangming Wu. He loved spending his childhood swimming, fishing, and reading Chinese comics.
Sean was a high-achieving student from a young age, consistently at the top of his classes. He received his Bachelor's in English at the Junior College of Guiyang Normal University. He further pursued his interest in Western culture by earning a Master's in Western Literary Theory at Sichuan University. Soon after, he moved to the United States and earned a Ph.D. at the University of Oregon in Telecommunications. His extensive educational background would lead to several managerial roles at tech companies and, more recently, his own entrepreneurial endeavors.
An avid explorer, Sean traveled to more than 20 countries, went on road trips across the US for his beloved game of golf, and appreciated wine from every region of the world. He could always be found seeking new adventures. He also had a deep appreciation for the arts: Literature, collecting art and antiques, nature photography, and thoroughly analyzing every movie he watched. In this endless pursuit of knowledge, Sean positively impacted everyone around him with his wisdom and integrity, delivered by his authentically endearing and youthfully joyous personality. He was deeply loved and revered, and will truly be missed by so many.
Sean is survived by his wife Xiaoya (Michelle) Mu, his children Joni and Aiden Wu, his younger sister Xianglan Wu, and his pet dog Luna. He was preceded in passing by his father Xinghua Wu, his mother Jimin Xu, and his younger brother Xiangming Wu.
