OBITUARY

Sharan "Sam" J. Chahal

Sharanjit (Sam) Chahal was born in Bhaini Bagha, District Bhatinda, Panjab, India, on January 1st, 1936. He left India at age 17 for England and studied there for one year at London School of Economics. He then migrated to United States to study Engineering at UCLA. He ultimately completed his Masters in Metallurgical Engineering. He worked for numerous companies, including McDonnell Douglas and McCullouch Chainsaw. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and at one time owned a bar named Sam’s Bar in Hermosa Beach. He married Dr. Binna P. Chahal in 1972 in Patiala, Panjab, India and began their married life in Playa Del Rey, California. They welcomed their daughter, Armaan Chahal MacDonald, in 1982. He gained a son when his daughter Armaan married Shawn MacDonald. They gave Sam his greatest gift, his grandson, Ronak James MacDonald. Sam is survived by his brother, Inderjit “Jimmy” Chahal, of Barcelona, Spain, and his sister, Gurpreet Dhaliwal, of Amritsar, India. Sam left, on January 11th 2020, to reunite with his parents, Harbhajan Singh Chahal and Gurdial Kaur Mann, and sisters, Amarjit Kaur and Malvinder Chhokar. Sam was a very wise, kind and humorous man. He will be remembered most for his passion of politics and his delightful sense of humor. His daughter, nieces, and nephews will always remember his corny jokes and love of magic. He will be dearly missed.
