Thomas David Glenn, age 87, of Huntington Beach passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 25, 2019. His four children were by his side, as well as his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis. They were both active members of the Huntington Beach community, and Tom will be missed dearly by many.
Thomas was born in Santa Monica, California on October 16, 1931. After graduating from Santa Monica High School in 1949, he served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 as a Military Policeman on the Korean War’s dangerous railroad tracks. At the end of the war, he was honorably discharged and continued his education at USC on the G.I. Bill. In 1955, he received his accounting degree from the university, and made a living working for McDonald Douglas Aircraft as a price analyst. On February 18, 1956, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Jean, and they had four children. He finished his career at Boeing Aircraft and retired in 1996, enjoying retirement for 22 years.
“Top Gun”, as Thomas was called my those close to him, loved to play pool competitively and hang out with his grandkids in Newport Beach. Top Gun had a love for all sports and was a youth coach in Huntington Beach for his daughter and three sons. His knack for sharing riddles and solving problems was admired by his grandkids and those around him, and he was an avid Sudoku player.
As a young adult, Top Gun was an active surfer and fisherman and worked as a caddy at the world-famous Riviera Country Club. Through his small stint at the Santa Monica Seafood Company, he learned how to prepare and cook seafood, a hobby he would love for the rest of his life. He enjoyed fishing the shoreline of Sunset Beach as well as out of Long Beach, on the hunt for yellowtail and seabass. He carried on his lifelong love of the beach to his grandchildren, and rented a beach house each summer to explore the ocean with them.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father Vanderman Murphy Glenn, mother Natalie Ruth Capelli, and stepmom Vera Glenn. He will be forever remembered by his wife Phyllis and their four children David, Daniel, Eric and Katrina, and by his seven grandchildren Eric T., Bryan, Danielle, Hailey, Jaden, Tegan, and Brogan, who all loved him dearly and will never forget his wit, charm, ability to make people laugh, and undying love and care for them.
