Wallace Charles Dagnin, 91, of Santa Ana, California, died Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach, following a long illness. He was surrounded by his daughter, Joette, son-in-law Michael, and grandson Ryan Pierce.
Wallace (Wally) was born November 12, 1930 in Astoria, Oregon. His parents moved with the Coast Guard to the Mississippi gulf coast when he was five. Shortly after losing his mother, his
father remarried Esther Maples, and Wally soon adapted to the South. The Coast Guard life
shipped the family to Buffalo, New York, and Biloxi, Mississippi with his father retiring with the family to California. Wally settled as a high schooler with his dad, step-mother and young brother in the San Fernando Valley graduating from Van Nuys High School, playing football, including one game at the Coliseum.
He met the love of his life, Linnis (Lin) Glass at the Owl Drug Store. After his graduation and work with Edison Bros. Stores, the two married in 1950 prior to his draft in the army and shipment to Korea for combat. He fought on the front lines laying telephone wire for communications and fought on Pork Chop Hill.
Upon his return from the army, they had a daughter, Joette Elizabeth, and settled in Granada Hills, California, then making their forever home in Santa Ana, California.
Wally continued working for Edison Bros. Stores, Leeds and Chandlers, becoming a sales manager, and opening stores in the Orange County and Los Angeles areas including Fashion Island, Newport Beach and South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa. He enjoyed discovering the latest trends, sending them off to the home office, to be copied and resold in their stores. His wit and drawings always entertained the merchandising buyers. Over his 45-year career with EBS, he received many awards.
They welcomed and enjoyed their son-in-law, Michael Pierce and his daughters Christy and Suzy and expanded family. Lin and Wally travelled to the East Coast, Australia, England, Scotland, and Europe. He loved football and especially was a “Rams Fan.”
With the birth of his grandson, Ryan Pierce, he retired. He enjoyed attending all of Ryan’s baseball games, school activities, and parties with Lin, who retired from teaching and the medical field. He was extremely proud to see Ryan graduate from the University of Alabama.
Wally was the kindest and most generous to all that new him. He kept his wit and humor throughout his illness. He will be forever missed.
Predeceased him was his wife, Linnis (Lin) Glass Dagnin (married 63 years), his parents, Wallace G. Dagnin, Elizabeth Bridget Lauder and step-mother Esther Maples, twin sons, Eric Wallace and Emil Stefan, and half-brother Gabriel.
Grateful for having shared his life was his daughter, Joette Pierce and husband Michael, grandson, Ryan Pierce, step-granddaughters, Suzy Accola and Christy Castaneda and their families, along with his East Coast and Southern relatives.
