

Adan Fortunato Rangel Sr, 89, passed away on May 27, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born June 15, 1923 in Corpus Christi, Texas, he is the son of the late Fortunato Rangel and Juana Alegria Rangel . He retired from Corpus Christi Army Depot after 35 years in 1979 and was a proud World War II Army Veteran where he served in the Pacific under General MacArthur from 1943 thru 1946 as a Medic. Adan grew up during the Great Depression, lost his dad at age of 12 and joined the US Army during WWII and made sure that his mother and younger brother were always cared for. Adan was also a proud member of the VFW and DAV Chapters 12 & 150. During his early retirement years from Civil Service he also was a self-employed distributor for the Houston Post, San Antonio Light, San Antonio Express and Ad-Sack. Adan was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and had deep religious beliefs which he instilled in all his children. He was a strong family man and was known as "Everybody's Dad". Adan's love for music and dancing stayed with him till the very end. In his younger years Big band music was what he danced to, that brought him to win numerous dance contests. He could jitterbug like no other. Adan was the last survivor of his family and has now joined his six sisters and only brother. He is survived by his wife, Amelia Godoy Rangel, son, Adan F. Rangel Jr. ( late wife Sunny) of Virginia Beach, VA., son, Rudy G. Rangel of Corpus Christi, daughter, Linda A. Lopez ( Juan Gilberto) of La Porte, Tx, son, Randy G. Rangel (Cindy) Corpus Christi, TX, Roger S. Rangel ( Leticia) of Corpus Christi,Tx, daughter, Laura A. Rangel of Pasadena, TX, son, Ramsey L. Rangel ( Herminia (Minnie)) of Corpus Christi, Tx. Adan had 21 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren. Public is welcomed between 6pm and 9pm. Rosary will commence at 7pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, on Sunday, June 2nd. Mass will be held on Monday, June 3rd at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 710 19th St., Corpus Christi. Burial following Mass at: Coastal Bend State Veteran Cemetery, 9974 IH 37, Corpus Christi. Pallbearers are his eldest grandsons: Rudy Rangel Jr, Adan F. Rangel III, Bobby Rangel, Ryan Rangel, Rene Rangel, Nathan Rangel, Edward Rangel and Jake Espinoza. The family would like to thank all of Adan's Medical team at St Luke's hospital in Houston, Texas, especially Dr. Nery Flores and staff, Dr. Lazaro Cherem and staff and Dr. Luis Camacho and staff for the outstanding care of our dad during his illness. Also, a special thanks to US Renal and the two nurses who cared for our father, Christina and Angela.
