

Addie Mae White Stewart, 88, passed away on February 3, 2014 and was born in Morgan County in Alabama on February 11, 1925. She attended school in Decatur, Alabama where she lived with her parents Joseph Porter Sr. and Stella White Porter. She married Emmitt Stewart who had recently joined the navy on May 12, 1946 and graduated from Decatur Negro High School on May 23 1946. After years of traveling throughout the south with her husband, Addie eventually settled in Corpus Christi TX.
No matter where she lived she pursued her interest in helping children and community service. She was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir, usher board, United Methodist Women and received the Discipleship Award from the Corpus Christi District of the United Methodist Church in 2008. Her interests outside of church included the NAACP, Debs Mothers Club, and RSVP.
Upon her death on February 3, 2014 she will be remembered by friends and her immediate family: a daughter, Lillian Stewart, granddaughter, Elizabeth Stewart and great grandson, Patrick Stewart of Corpus Christi, TX, a daughter, Patricia Stewart of Austin, Texas and a brother, Joseph Porter Jr. of Decatur Alabama. Her extended families in Corpus Christi included the Bluntzer family -Robert (deceased), Chispa, and their children and grandchildren and the Sanderson family whom she loved and cared for deeply.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church (1202 Sam Rankin St.) with services to conclude.
