With tremendous sadness, we announce that our beloved father… grandfather… great grandfather… Alejandro (Alex) S. Blanco was called home by the Lord on March 9, 2026 at the age of 98. Surrounded by his loving family, Alex peacefully departed this world with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of love for God, family, and service to our Nation and others, that will forever inspire all who knew him.
Born on August 4, 1927 in Old Gulf (now New Gulf), Texas, Alejandro (Alex) was the son of the late Alejandro Blanco and Mercedes Sepeda Blanco.
After leaving the Army and joining the Corpus Christi Fire Department, Alex made Corpus Christi his home for over 70 years where he raised his family and directly contributed to the raising and well-being of his grand and great grandchildren.
His greatest treasures were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he loved unconditionally. Alex’s home was often “the place” for family get-togethers and celebrations where his love of cooking took hold.
Alex’s “spirit of service” and love for this Nation was the driving force behind him joining the Army in 1944 during World War II, and after departing the Army in 1954 after serving in the Korean War as well. That spirit continued as Alex joined the Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD) for a career that spanned over 20 years. After retiring from the CCFD, Alex’s drive to help others kept him involved in various jobs and volunteer activities well into his 90’s and was focused on providing support services to all, including other veterans at the VA. Alex’s “spirit of service” legacy will continue to inspire all who he met during his lifetime.
Alex leaves behind a lifetime of memories, woven with faith, love and warmth. He was preceded in death by his 4 sisters and 5 brothers. He is survived by his brother John Blanco and his sister Mercedes Blanco Montelongo. He will be lovingly remembered by his 4 children: Mercy (Bill) Lomax, Sandra (Larry) Gonzalez, Belinda (Dalbert) Leal, and Alex (Jennifer) Blanco, and as “Dada” by his 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on March 23, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Prayer Service from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on March 24, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm, followed by Committal at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
The family wishes to thank Nora, Essie, and Jessica at Addi Home Health & Hospice, as well as Desirae at Visiting Angels, for all their comfort, guidance and care during this time of loss in our lives.
