Alice Velez was a cherished and beloved daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, and grandmother. She was born on January 26, 1960 in The Bronx, NY, and passed away peacefully in her sleep in Corpus Christi, TX on January 21, 2017.
Alice was predeceased by her father, Julio C. Velez, who was no doubt waiting for her with open arms. She is survived by her husband, Keith Sturdivant; sons, Gregory Sturdivant and Matthew Sturdivant; two grandchildren, Alec Sturdivant and Landen Valentine-Sturdivant; mother, Carmen L. Velez; siblings, Caeser Velez, Julio F. Velez, Rose Reilly, Carmen E. Velez (and spouse, Carol Gillingham), Angel Velez (and spouse, Jenny Velez), John Velez (and spouse, Zulma Rodriguez); and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Alice had an infectious smile, with deep brown eyes that sparkled. She was beautiful, kind, and compassionate. She loved animals, and always treated them like the family they were. Her birth family called her Lichi, and it was a nickname that seemed to fit her well. Later in life, she acquired other nicknames, such as Star and Little Eaglers. She answered to just about anything, though, as she always enjoyed being involved in conversation, and making people laugh.
As we gather on her 57th birthday to celebrate her short life, let us be grateful for the years she shared with us and the joy she brought to our lives. Let us also look forward to the day we shall all be reunited with her.
