After only a few short hours of her family singing “Happy Birthday” by her bedside, Alicia Carranco Garcia, 92, went to be with the Lord, peacefully, on December 22, 2020 in Corpus Christi, TX, after a long battle with cancer.
Alicia was born to Casimiro and Antonia (Iruegas) Carranco, on December 21, 1928 in Coleman, TX. She married Jesus T. Garcia on January 24, 1953 in Brownfield, TX, and they were married for 54 years until his death in 2007. Together, they had six devoted children: Maria Guadalupe Gonzales, Graciela Garcia, Beatrice Garcia, David Garcia, Raymond Garcia, and Theresa Mazzurco. She leaves in legacy her children, eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, and was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister: Maria de los Angeles Rodriguez, brother and sister-in-law: Salvador and Anita Carranco, and two grandsons: James Thomas Melvin III and W.C. O’Neal II.
A woman of many talents and heart-felt characteristics, she is described as talented, creative, giving, loving, strong, a good soul, and simply as “superwoman”. Often times, you could find her knitting or cross-stitching blankets and other items for her loved ones, painting ceramics, doing home-improvement projects and crafts, baking and cooking delicious food from scratch.
A true matriarch, she was a doting wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always made sure her family was taken care of through the time, talents, and treasures that she so graciously and effortlessly shared. Her care and compassion extended beyond her family to those around her, and even to animals in need. She was also a woman of wisdom, sharing very matter-of-fact advice but in the most caring of ways, and a woman of great strength. Even until the end, she maintained her optimism, calm, and joy despite her long battle with cancer. The light of Alicia Garcia will be so dearly missed and forever cherished.
