Alicia Gomez Garza

She was born on December 27, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and grew up surrounded by a loving family and lifelong friends. She married soul mate, Ruben Garza Sr, on June 5, 1965. Together, they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three children, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of godchildren. They adored each other and there wasn’t anything Ruben wouldn’t do for her. He was by her side, taking care of her, up to the very end.

As devout Catholics, Alicia and Ruben served together as Eucharistic Ministers and Youth Group leaders at Christ the King Catholic Church. Alicia was also a prayer warrior who would pray for anyone who needed it.

She loved football and was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys supporter. However, when her sons played for the Carroll Tigers, you could always find her in the stands, cheering loudly and proudly. When her grandsons took the field, she happily became a supporter of whatever team they played for!

She had a wonderful sense of style and a special love for jewelry, passions she proudly passed on to her daughter and granddaughters. She was also known to say that she had the best daughters-in-law and she welcomed them with open arms into the family.

She loved Spanish music and would spend hours watching videos on YouTube. She would never pass up a trip to Hobby Lobby, nor would she turn down the opportunity to watch a good scary movie. She was an avid seamstress and her grandchildren kept her busy with repairs! She and Ruben shared a love of gardening. She had the greenest of green thumbs, and all of the plants would flourish under their care. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, a love she passed on to her children and her grandchildren.

Above all else, she loved her family. She loved her children dearly, and when her grandchildren, and eventually her great-grandchildren, came along, they became the loves of her life. And they all loved her dearly in return. She was proud of everything they did and loved to hear about all of their accomplishments. She was quick to encourage them and offer advice whenever it was needed.

Left to carry on her memory and legacy are her husband of 61 years, Ruben Garza Sr ; her children, Diana Garza, Ruben (Irma) Garza Jr, and Rene (Christy) Garza; nine grandchildren, Manuel (Janis), Matthew, Kimberly, Lauren, Phillip, Kathryn, Jacob, Jonathan, and Gabriella; and five great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Madilynn, Emersynn, Bentlee, and Everleigh. She is also survived by brothers, Pete Gomez and Larry Yanez.

She was greeted at the pearly gates by her parents, Pedro Gomez and Guadalupe Yanez; her brothers, Robert, Adan, Johnny, and Simon; and her sisters, Rosalinda and Sophia.

Family will welcome guests on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel, located at 4901 Everhart Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78411. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. All services will conclude at 10:00 p.m.
