Alton P. Johnston peacefully passed away in the early morning of December 11, 2018. Alton (A.P.) was born January 9, 1928, in Corpus Christi, Texas at the corner of Dump Road (Staples St.) and Mud Bridge Road (Yorktown Blvd.). A.P. started as a farmer, later forming what is now called Johnston Fertilizer, Inc. He was always hard at work and took great pride in teaching his sons the business. Often times A.P. held down two jobs at one time to provide for his family. Through his actions, A.P. taught all of his children to be great problem solvers and good citizens. A couple of hobbies included flying his airplane and motorhome trips with the Jericho Roadrunners camping group from Gardendale Baptist Church. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his kids and grandkids, who he loved dearly. Alton was preceded in death by his father, Alton Johnston, Sr., his mother Minnie Floy Johnston Stephens, his first wife Betty Jo Cooper Johnston, and son, (little) Joe Johnston. He is survived by his wife of nineteen years Patsy Johnston, children Linda Lee (Dan) Conner, Jerry (Tracy) Johnston, Johnny (Ruth) Johnston, Kay Lynn (Cindy) Johnston, LouAnn (Wayne) Cox, Jeffrey (Shande) Johnston and two stepchildren Ken (Sue) Hall and Kathy (Wayne) Grothman. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and 4 step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jered Johnston, Judd Johnston, Randy Johnston, Ben Phillips, Matt Zimmermann, Keith Andrews, and Stephen Summers. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, December 14, 2018, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Cage-Mills Funeral Home on Everhart. A funeral service will be held immediately following at Cage-Mills Funeral Home at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Rosehill Memorial Park.
