

Andres G. Alanis passed away on May 28, 2011, at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 1, 1924 to Ernesto and Guadalupe Alanis in Donna, Texas. Andres was a veteran of WWII where he served in the Special Forces. He was an usher for Holy Family Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and also President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Andres attended the De Colores Catholic Retreat which spiritually enriched his life. Andres was a hard worker who always made sure his family was taken care of. He retired from Reynolds Metal Co. after 35 years of dedicated service where he was the Secretary/Treasurer for the Local AFLCIO. He was a kind hearted man who was always willing to help others. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Andres was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; son, Hector Homer Alanis; and a grandson.
He leaves to cherish in memory his loving wife of 63 years, Dalia; children, Diana Sonnenschein (Rick), Andres Alanis, Jr., Ernest Alanis (Josie), Delva Alanis, Norma Garcia, Dalia Garcia (Rene), Anna Cantu, Rolando Alanis, and Patsy Garza (Abel); 25 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, May 30, 2011 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that evening. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Alicia Perez for the love, care and devotion she gave to our wonderful dad. A special thanks also goes out to Dr. Ronald Munsen.
