Antonio S. Recio, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Tone (Toh-neh), as he was affectionately known, was born on July 5th, 1932, in Nixon, Texas to Dolores and Calixtra Recio. Tone was the last surviving brother in his family.
Tone was employed by Asarco for 33 years. Although Tone only went as far as 2nd grade in school, he was an accomplished businessman who enjoyed a long retirement in which he enjoyed tending to his many rental properties.
Tone met and then married the love of his life, Elida “Lela” Cantu on February 4, 1956. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in January 2022 before Elida passed away in August of that same year. Tone and Lela had eight children, and they instilled in all of them a love of family and of faith. Tone enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, listening to his conjunto music and barbequing. There was always a party happening at the old house on Yale St. This is where so many friends became family. His family will always have the best memories of Welo’s barbeque and his carne guisada in pila.
Tone is predeceased by his parents, Dolores and Calixtra Recio, his wife of 66 years, Elida Cantu Recio, his brothers Patricio, Nicolas, Gregorio, Octaviano, Dolores, Ramon, and Manuel and his sisters Estella and Juanita.
